Why the website?

I, Taunto, would like the citizens of Lafayette to open their eyes. Stop listening to the propaganda fed to you by radio & TV. Read this, and create your own educated opinion based on facts.

First I would like for everyone to know that I am 100% against speeders, red light runners, drunk drivers, and all road threats. I would love to drive through town, just one day, without these idiots on the road. The threat of my life being taken away by a careless driver infuriates me. What infuriates me even more is a company that claims to keep our community safe by monitoring the roads with survallience equipment.

Here is a list of problems I see with the program:

• Employees are not required to have any experience with law enforcement or traffic control. Traffic cops say it takes a large amount of training and practice to accurately record speed using radar.
• Workers with previous OWI, DUI, & Drug charges have been hired by Redflex.
• Redflex stated that their equipment fails 59% of the time!
• Motorists are not punished when the crime occurs. They may have no idea of a citation until checking the mail weeks later.
• All researched statistics I have found show this program has either increased accidents, or has no correlation.
• Once our city signs a RedFlex contract they are locked in for years. If broken, large penalties must be paid to this Australian Company.
• RedFlex makes these violations civil, not criminal. Our city laws clearly state red light running and speeding are criminal, not civil.
• You are Guilty until proven innocent. Money must be paid to dispute a violation BEFORE any court date is set. If you do not pay fines, your credit could be at stake.
• Our city is FORCED to meet ticket quotas. If not met, the light locations must be moved.
• Increasing the Yellow light time is directly related to a decrease in traffic accidents and red light running, but changing the Yellow light time is a BREACH OF CONTRACT with Redflex.
• A camera does not create safety, it simply takes a picture of danger.

These are the facts I have found. I encourage you to conduct your own research before voicing your opinion. If the city of Lafayette can address these concerns I believe our city could benefit greatly from a legal, ethical, traffic control program.
