LPB - Report On Lafayette's Photo Enforcement Program

Listen closely to Tony Tramel's defensive argument. He is claiming that the problem would be solved if "Everyone" stops speeding and running red lights. Now take his argument and apply it to Drugs, Murder, Rape, or any other problems that face society as a whole. What do you get? Disaster! Oh do not worry about all the killing, rape, and drugs going around. Everyone just needs to stop doing drugs, stop killing, and stop raping, and society will be at peace. Then a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end will magically appear in the sky. What kind of delusional argument is that?

The bottom line is that snapping pictures of these dangerous drivers will do NOTHING. A drunk driver ran 6 cars off of Johnston street last weekend. A hit and run forced victims to chase after this drunk driver themselves. What did Tony's wonderful camera system do? Snap pictures of this drunk driver ramming innocent citizens off of the road. Finally the drunk driver lost control and hit a telephone pole. You need police officers to stop dangerous situations. Cameras and safety have no correlation yet our government will try to make you believe it does. Cameras will create fear in the average driver causing them to watch the speedometer more than the road, and slam on their breaks when approaching intersections. If speed limits were meant to be followed perfectly, humans should not be driving cars.

Tony Tramel, the person who sold his soul to this program, has a radar detector in his own vehicle. Why?

Class Action Lawsuit - Joey Durel Sued Over Redflex

Posted: Feb 13, 2008 05:17 PM CST - KATC.com
Official Class Action Lawsuit Document

Tonight - another twist in the legal saga surrounding Lafayette speed vans and red light cameras. Moments after he finished his State of the Parish address, City-Parish President Joey Durel was served with a lawsuit claiming the redflex cameras are un-constitutional.

Joey Durel was not amused, as he quickly dropped the lawsuit served to him as he left the stage after his State of the Parish Address. "I think they should be ashamed of themselves," says Durel. The lawsuit filed Wednesday in US District Court says the entire Redflex camera system violates the constitution by not giving people issued citations the same rights they'd have if they were ticketed by a police officer.

"There have been a lot of questions about the legality of this program - as well as its constitutionality - what we want is for an American judge to give us clarity on the issue," says Stephanie Ware. Ware filed the suit. Her attorneys say the way the parish has shifted some traffic laws to civil enforcement goes against state law. Also - they claim we all have rights to confront our accusor. In this case a police officer, in court.

"I'd like to have some of those citizens apologize to parents of those children who died in horrible accidents on Ambassador Caffery and other streets in Lafayette due to speeding," says Joey Durel. Durel is not apologizing for the Safe Speed program. He believes the systems are making a difference in Lafayette. And he says he's not losing much sleep over this lawsuit.

"Please hear this - I will never apologize for find ways to change the habits of bad drivers," says Durel.

Local Redflex Employee Arrested for OWI

January 30, 2008 a local Redflex employee was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. This further reinforces Redflex's claim to change driving habits. This employee appears to no longer speed, but drive completely intoxicated on our streets. We should all thank Redflex for keeping our streets safe and changing our driving habits!

Police Record

A few hours after we posted this on SafeSpeedLafayette her page HERE was modified to say "HOLD FOR COURT" in place of the original "Operating While Intoxicated" charge. We did take a screen shot of the original charge that you can view HERE

Tony Tramel - CAUGHT ON TAPE - Listen Here

A Lafayette, Louisiana city official was caught on tape last week laughing at motorists behind closed doors with an independent hearing officer and a representative from a speed camera vendor. The conversation followed an adjudicatory hearing where Mark and Phil Abshire successfully beat a pair of photo radar tickets by showing the city cited the wrong ordinance on the citations issued. Lafayette City Traffic and Transportation Director Tony Tramel joined independent adjudicator Fred Davis and an unidentified employee, likely of Redflex, in discussing the twins' case. - thenewspaper.com
